Who is it for?

 

The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is the most widely recognised English language qualification in the world. The test is particularly useful to those looking to demonstrate their English language ability for higher education, immigration, and employment (both in the UK and overseas). As the largest open examination centre in Scotland, Basil Paterson is the perfect place to take this important test of communicative English ability. We also offer a dedicated IELTS Preparation course all year round. 

 

How to apply

 

To book an IELTS exam in Edinburgh or Aberdeen, please follow the instructions on the right-hand side of this page. The IELTS examination fee is £110 in 2010. A full list of dates is available below; however, please note that these dates may be subject to change, and that you will need to book several weeks in advance to guarantee a place on the exam, as spaces fill up extremely quickly. 

 

If there are no places available on the date you require, please visit www.ielts.org for a list of alternative centres. Basil Paterson does not operate a waiting list sytem, so please ensure you leave plenty of time to reserve your place.

Please note:

 

  • Dates in bold are both Academic and General Training test dates. Dates not in bold are Academic only.
  • These dates may be subject to change, and places fill up extremely quickly.
  • To ensure there is space on your preferred testing date, please phone us.
  • You must bring the ID you used in your application with you on the day of your exam. Acceptable  identification can be either a valid passport or, if you come from inside the EU, an EU identity card.
  • During the summer months your interview may not be on the same day as the written papers. If you live outside of Edinburgh, we will do our best to arrange your interview on the same day.
  • Each candidate is permitted to request up to 5 result certificates (TRFs) to be sent to various institutions for free. These should be written on page 3 of your application form. If you contact us after tha TRFs have been issued, or if you wish to send more than 5 copies, a charge of £15 applies. 

 

IELTS practice materials

 

Copies of official IELTS practice materials with CD and sample answers are available from £10 excluding postage (add £2 for UK, or £5 overseas). Please send a cheque made payable to Basil Paterson College if you require these materials.

How to apply

 

  • Your application must be completed in full and include:                

a. your passport number
b. 2 passport-sized photos

c. your preferred location

d. photocopy of your ID
e. your signature on page 4
f. your test fee payment

    • Post it to the College along with a cheque (payable to Basil Paterson College)
    • Alternatively, to pay by debit/credit card, fill out this form and post it with your application
    • You can also pay at the school reception (Mon to Fri 9.00-5.00)
    • DO NOT SEND CASH BY POST

    Your results

     

    Candidates results will be produced 13 days after the exam date. They can be collected in person at the college reception (with valid ID),  or they can be posted out. We cannot email, fax, or tell someone the results over the telephone.

     

    Important information

     

    • You must bring the same identity document with you on the day of your exam as you used in your application. You will not be allowed to take the exam without it
    • Exams fees cannot be refunded
    • We can transfer or cancel your IELTS exam up to 5 weeks before the original test date. This will incur a £20 administration fee.
