Why choose Basil Paterson?

Basil Paterson is the largest open examination centre in Scotland for Cambridge and IELTS, and the 5th biggest in the UK. The school has longstanding experience hosting major examinations, and with our central Edinburgh location, all major rail and bus stations are just a 15 min walk away. We also host IELTS exams at the University of Aberdeen if this is more convenient.

In Edinburgh, exams take place in the same building as the language school. This means that, for those looking for a little extra help in advance of their exam, our range of intensive Cambridge and IELTS Preparation courses are available in exactly the same place.

Why IELTS?

• Demonstrates your English ability for higher education, work, and immigration purposes.
• IELTS tests every two or three weeks in Edinburgh, and every few months in Aberdeen.
• If you are applying to an educational institution, you will probably need the Academic module. 
• If you taking IELTS for immigration reasons, General Training is more common.
• Ask the organisation you are applying to if you are unsure which module they require.
